big and little projects . week 42

Big things happened last week.
After months of building relationship with a local school, our church's Social Justice Ministry team organized a service day to spruce up an under-resourced school in our community.

Around 75 of our church members showed up to serve. Lawn mowing, tree trimming, weeding, washing windows, repairing desks, painting a mural ... we did it all. The principal and staff were overwhelmed by the turnout and all that was accomplished. .

So proud of @commongroundchurch Constantiaberg and our Social Justice Ministry team! Making a neighborhood impact for sure. Thanks to all who came out and sweat with us! Praying for our church as we actively live out the Gospel in community. .

Thanks to @lukequinndejager & @mrmokgatla for planning & prepping the mural. Legends!

Here was the mural we've been working on for months:

Friday before the Service Day, volunteers came to prep the walls and trace the slogan.

Friday volunteers also painted the first coat of paint.

From 8am - 2pm volunteers rotated and put their mark on the wall!

Detailed shot. Love the loose design ... great for all levels of painting skills!

The principal chose this slogan. The blue and orange are school colors.
We chose a lighter blue for the background to keep the hallway bright.
Final product! Really lightened up the school hallway!

Little projects happened too ...
So, one of the days I planned and shopped for the mural work, I was stuck in a paint store for about an hour. I'd already ordered my paint, but I was patiently waiting on the mixing to finish. I saw some inspiration at the paint sample section and helped myself to some sample strips that I intended to use for my #365daysofcreativity. Here's how that went ...

simple supplies - found an old scrap piece of wood, school glue and my paint strips

Cut the colors into rectangles (keep the sample codes, they add character!).
Pour a generous amount of glue on the board and start layering!

Sort of an ombre-inspired piece. Collage-meets-roofing!
Just a fun little project from freebies.
